The basis of my work is drawing from life and imagination. I mainly work in ink, watercolour, acrylics and pencil as well as other mixed media. In my work I try to create atmosphere with colour and tone and visual humour with memorable, expressive characters. Retro cartoons, other cultures and old fables are among some of the things that influence my work. A recent project was a modern, picture book adaptation of the fables of The Country and the Town Mouse. After finishing a BA. Graphic design degree in 2003 at Norwich school of art I moved to Finland on a two-year study break. There I had two exhibitions of my paintings and produced work for a number of illustration projects. I am now currently living in Cambridge and doing an MA in Childrens book illustration at Cambridge school of Art, graduating in early 2007. Although I am now concentrating primarily on illustration for childrens books I will still continue to produce commercial illustration work, landscapes and portraits.
